History of the hotel

The history of an exceptional hotel or how city walls were transformed into a city hotel…

The founder

The Hotel Innsbruck was built by Johann Ischia on the foundations of the former city walls. The hotel combines exclusivity and tradition to create a very special experience packed with modern lifestyle and a marked sense of history.

The origins

The origins of the current Hotel Innsbruck date back to Josefa and Johann Ischia (1870-1930). After the First World War, the Ischias founded a company which quickly became successful and profitable. The purchasing and renovation of the traditional Roter Adler guesthouse led to the development of a modern hotel business. Management of the hotel was later passed down to daughter Dora and her son Johann Ischia jun. In 1974, construction on the current Hotel Innsbruck began, a project implemented with great dedication and personal commitment by Johann Ischia jun.

Innovation

Over the generations, the Ischia family have demonstrated great entrepreneurial spirit, a wide-ranging perspective and significant powers of innovation. The first lift for guests was installed at the ‘Roter Adler’ guesthouse – a novelty which caused a real stir in the region. Johann Ischia and his wife Margit made the Hotel Innsbruck one of the most modern hotels in the city from the outset. Integration of an indoor pool, large sauna and underground parking garage set new standards on Innsbruck’s hotel scene. Investments have been made in the infrastructure and expansion of the hotel ever since.
