Environmental awarenessÂ
Energy consumption:
- We obtain our electricity from a supplier who feeds 100% energy from renewable energy sources into the grid. This way we have 0% CO2 emissions from electricity consumption.
Heating:
- We obtain most of the heat for our hotel through two, newly installed (2022) groundwater heat pumps. As mentioned above they are powered by electricity from renewable sources.
- The gas heating in our house has been shut down and replaced by a district heating connection.
- If the heat from the heat pumps is not sufficient due to cold weather or peak hours, or to heat the hot water to the hygienically prescribed 70°C in the hot water storage tank additional heat from the Tirol Mitte district heating network is fed into our system. District heating in turn, obtains 65% of its heat from environmentally friendly sources such as industrial waste heat, heat recovery systems, biogas, heat from biomass or heat pumps. Only 35% of district heating is still being obtained from gas boilers.
Cooling:
- 70% of our hotelrooms air conditioning systems are operated by using groundwater cooling, as are our refrigeration systems in the kitchen. The rest of the air conditioners are classical systems.
Window:
- All windows within the hotel have been renewed and are triple glazed for better insulation.
Cleaning:
- We have switched to a cleaning system from the regional company hollu. Here, only products with the EU Eco Label are being used for cleaning and within the in-house laundry.
Room/guest accessories:
- All bathroom items are Fair Trade products (soap, shampoo, conditioner) and come in refillable dispensers
- Bathroom accessories (vanity set, shower attachment, comb, nail file) are made from sustainable and compostable materials by the company Think Act & Live Responsible
- Disposable plastic slippers and disposable cups have been removed. Guests are reminded on a regular basis to bring their own slippers. As an alternative we offer plastic-free and compostable hotel slippers for purchase at the reception.
- Laundry bags are now made of paper instead of plastic
- Shoehorns are made out of wood instead of plastic
- When purchasing new guest accessories, particular attention is being paid to sustainability and products that are as plastic-free as possible.
Waste separation/waste reduction measures:
- The one-bucket system was abandoned throughout the house. At each disposal station you can find plastic, paper and residual waste being separated.
- Within the hotel rooms you will find one recycling bin in the bathroom. Other rubbish bins have been made redundant. Glass and metal waste can be placed on display at the desk or deposited at reception. This is being communicated to our guests.
- There is a separate, in-house disposal concept for a professional disposal of waste generated in the building.
- In addition to the threefold separation, you can also find a separate container for organic waste within the wellness areas.
- By introducing the waste separation system, we have already managed to reduced the amount of residual waste by 55%.
Measures to conserve energy:
- Outdoor lighting has been reduced and only operates until 11:00 p.m., when it is not essential.
- Aisle lighting was reduced to short and demand-oriented use controlled by timers and presence detectors.
- Lighting fixtures in the hotel use LED technology.
- Minibars were removed from the rooms and replaced by a central maxi bar as well as by central cooling facilities.
- We anticipate continuous awareness raising amongst the workforce
Measures to reduce paper waste:
- By using tablets we have replaced the paper-based check-in process with a digital recording of registration data
- Welcome Cards (guest cards) are being send in a digital format and only printed on request.
- For pads, copy paper and envelopes we use certified recycled paper only.
- Guest information for within the rooms is retrievable in a digital format via our hotel app.
Additional measures:
- We have consciously designed our inner courtyard eco friendly with a vertical garden and over 2000 plants as well as additional potted plants. (At the time of the installation it was the first of ist kind in the city of Innsbruck)
- For the arrival day guests are invited to request the Welcome Card for a free use of public transport in the city of Innsbruck. This way we try to make it more attractive for our guests to travel by public transportion.
Measures in the F&B area:
- For the organisation of the breakfast buffet we are concentrating on the use of low-packaging products wherever possible. For example open yoghurts instead of plastic cups or butter dispensing machines instead of small butter packaging.
- Paper napkins at breakfast have been replaced with cloth napkins.
