Innsbruck's most famous landmark is a must see for every city guest. Wonderfully embedded in a scenery of late Gothic house facades, fichly decorated oriels and romantic arcades, the 2657 fire-gilded cooper shingles competing with the clear mountain sky. Built in 1500 by order of Emperor Maximilian, the Golden Roof is considered a symbol of old Europe. the fascination of what is probably the most famous oriel in the Alps extended to the present days: A popular photo motif for visitors from all over the world and as a as a "time machine" for those interested in history..

Nordkettenbahnen - Nordketten cable cars

The Nordkettenbahnen in Innsbruck combine and link the urban with the alpine. Planned and designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, the Hungerburgbahn (first section) funicular with its visually appealing stations is a perfect example how modern architecture can be intergrated into an historical setting. The panoramic cable card take you from the Hungerburg further up to lofty heights. Having reached an altitude of 2256m above sea level, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Inn-valley and the Karwendel mountains from the Hafelekar (top station).

Hofburg - Imperial Palace

Just a few steps away from the Golden Roof is another of Emperor Maximilian's magnificent buildings. Built arounf 1500, the imperial palace Innsbruck is an impressive testimony to imperial architecture. Maria Theresia, Emperor Franz Josef and the legendary "Sisi" also resided for a while at the imperial palace Innsbruck. After the end of the monarchy, the palace complex was nationalised and is now one of the three most important historical buildings in Austria. Many of the historical rooms, halls and rooms are open to the public.

City Tower

Already in 14500 people of Innsbruck wanted to be high up. With its 51 metres, the city tower offered the night watchman an excellent view over the roofs of the old town for centuries. Even today, the striking landmark is worth a visit, the steep climb of 148 steps is rewarded with an impressive view. The platform offers a magnificent panorama of historical architecture and the surrounding mountains.

1 minute walk to the Aloenzoo shuttle bus (lineW) from our Innsbruck****, then a 7 minutes bus drive.
The Alpenzoo is Innsbruck's window to the alpine animal world. At the foot of the Nordkette, 750 metred above sea level, bears, lynxes, vultures, wolves and co cavort on more than 4 hectares. A total of more than 2000 Alpine animals of 150 different species can be seen there in a near natural environment.

The Swarovski Crystal Worlds are the second most visited attraction in Austria after Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. It is a world of experience designed by André Heller and consists of a park, a museum and a large shop. The museum is an art installation with so called Chambers of Wonder, ever-changing installations from different artists from all over the world. A beautiful outdoor area, a restaurant and the largest Swarovski shop complete the offer of that destination.

Schloss Ambras - Ambras Castle
1 minute walk away frm our Innsbruck**** to the Sightseer Bus, then 35 minutes guided driving time with audio guides.
Ambras castle is located to the south and slightly above the city. The beautiful castle us surrounded by a spacoius castle park. The museum in the castle is considered as one of the oldest in the world and exhibits are part of the national Museum of Art History in Vienna.

Triumphpforte

The Triumphpforte i slocates at the southern end of Maria Theresien Straße. The Triumphpforte was built from the sedimentary rock Höttinger Breccie from the Nordkette. The Triumphal Gate is modelled on a Roman triumphal arch. The marble reliefs made by Balthasar Moo in 1774 on the south side of the Gate commemorate Leopold's marraige, while those on the north side sommemorate the death of his father, Emperor Franz Stphan, who died inexpectedly in Innsbruck during the wedding festivities.
