Holidays & Activities in Innsbruck

Innsbruck – the capital of the Alps.
Urban. Authentic. Incomparable.

Hiking and wellness. Skiing and sightseeing. A museum visit and a massage. Shopping tours and outdoor experiences, athletic flights of fancy and cultural depths. You can have it all on your holiday in Innsbruck. You don't have to decide between doing one and not doing the other. Find an unlimited variety of experiences between historical flair and young urbanity.

Summit feelings and city flair are closer together in the capital of Tyrol than anywhere else. Stroll through the picturesque alleys in front of a sensational mountain backdrop and just a bit later you can be in the middle of the mountain scenery: at 2,250 m, in a high-alpine region.

It's only 200 m from the Hotel Das Innsbruck to the Goldenes Dachl

The Hotel Das Innsbruck is located exactly where the history of Innsbruck began: at the (Old) Inn Bridge, which spans the Inn River. In just a few steps, you can reach the beautiful Old Town with its gothic and baroque architecture – and the famous sights.

Choose a room in the Hotel Das Innsbruck now and enjoy the alpine city flair!

Golden Roof (Goldens Dachl)

3 minutes on foot
This famous landmark of Innsbruck is a must for every holidaymaker.

Beautifully embedded in a scenery of late Gothic house facades, richly decorated bay windows and romantic arcades, the 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles gleam against the clear mountain sky. Built in 1500 for Emperor Maximilian, the Golden Roof is a symbol of old Europe. The fascination of the probably most famous bay window in the Alps continues to this day: as a popular photo motif for visitors from all over the world and as a "time machine" for those interested in history.

Maria Theresien Street (Marie-Theresien-Straße)

4 minutes on foot

Innsbruck's promenade and shopping mile attracts holidaymakers with its charming cafés, shops, and shopping centers. Along the 500 metre long boulevard, named after Empress Maria Theresia, you will also find numerous historical testimonies. Built in the 13th century as part of the first expansion of the city, Maria Theresien-Straße today entices visitors to take a stroll through the centuries. Popular photo motifs include the Anna Column, erected in 1704, and the famous Triumphal Gate. It is located at the southern end of Maria Theresa Street and commemorates the marriage of Archduke Leopold to the Spanish Princess Maria Ludovica in 1756.

Casino

10 minutes on foot
The Casino in Innsbruck is considered one of the most beautiful casinos in the world. This is hardly surprising, not only because of its unique location, but also because of the building's appealing architecture. Inside there is an upscale gaming experience and a sophisticated, entertaining program of events.

Town Tower (Stadtturm)

3 minutes on foot
As early as 1450 the people of Innsbruck wanted to reach high. With its 51 metres, the city tower offered the night watchman an outstanding view over the roofs of the old town for centuries. The striking landmark is still worth a visit today, and the steep ascent over 148 steps is rewarded with an impressive view. The viewing platform offers a magnificent panorama of historical architecture and the surrounding mountains

Hofburg

5 minutes on foot
Another impressive and magnificent building of Emperor Maximilian is located just a few steps away from the Golden Roof. Built around 1500, the Imperial Hofburg Innsbruck is an impressive testimony to imperial architecture. Maria Theresa, Emperor Franz Josef and the legendary "Sisi" also resided temporarily in the walls of the Hofburg. After the end of the monarchy, the palace complex was nationalized and is today one of the three most important historic buildings in Austria. Many of the historical rooms and halls are open to the public. Guided tours offer interested visitors an insight into the eventful history of Tyrol.

Landestheater

6 minutes on foot
Operas, operettas, spoken theatre and dance performances are part of the program of the Tyrolean Landestheater. Built in the years 1844-1846 according to plans by Giuseppe Segusini in the style of classicism, the theater today contributes significantly to the outstanding quality of the Tyrolean cultural world. The venue has seating for up to 800 spectators and is home to the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck.

Nordkettenbahn

7 minutes on foot
The Nordkettenbahnen in Innsbruck impressively connect urban and alpine life. Planned and designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, the Hungerburgbahn funicular railway with its visually appealing stations is a perfect example of how modern architecture can be harmoniously integrated into a historical environment. The panoramic gondolas take you from Hungerburg Castle to lofty heights. Once you arrive at 2256m above sea level, you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Inn valley and the Karwendel mountains from the Hafelekar

ALPEN ZOO

1 minute on foot to the Alpen zoo shuttle
The Alpenzoo is Innsbruck's window to the alpine animal world. At the foot of the Nordkette mountain range, 750 meters above sea level, bears, lynxes, vultures, wolves and co romp abou on more than 400 hectares. A total of more than 2000 alpine animals of 150 different species can be observed here in near-natural surroundings. With its breeding programs, the Innsbruck Alpenzoo contributes significantly to the conservation of endangered animal breeds in the alpine region and enjoys an excellent reputation far beyond national borders. The adventure playground and the show stable with old domestic animal breeds for petting and feeding are a special highlight for young visitors.

Bergisl and Tyrol Panorama

2 minutes on foot to the street car line 1
More than 200 years ago, the 750 meter high hill was the scene of a legendary battle. The Tyrolean freedom fighters around Andreas Hofer fled a Bavarian army under French command. Today, the ski jump is the venue of the famous Four Hills Tournament and attracts winter sports enthusiasts year after year. Since 2010, the "Tirol Panorama" has housed the largest work of art in Tyrol: the giant circular painting. The panorama picture shows the Tyrolean freedom fight of 13 August 1809 on an area of almost 1,000 m² in a breathtaking 360-degree view. The adjoining museum also offers exciting insights into the everyday history of Tyrol.
